Fire is a companion novel to Graceling (reviewed in another note.) There is only one character that both books have in common so they can be read in either order. Fire takes place before Graceling and in a different country. Fire is the last human monster in a world where there are many monsters that have powers to control human minds, and irresistible beauty. She struggle with and against the effects she has on the people around her. She doesn’t want to be a cruel manipulator like her father was. Complicating matters for her is the kingdoms need of her abilities and her feelings for the royal family.

Fire is an adventure novel with intrigue, spies, war, and romance. It’s well written, the story flows and all the elements are supported. I would love to see another story that combines both the worlds in Fire and Graceling.
